Every football team knows the importance of having a backup quarterback.
You hope you don’t need them. But when the starter goes down, somebody has to be ready to step in.
Heading into Homecoming, Park Christian School found itself facing a similar situation — except it wasn’t their quarterback. It was their scoreboard.
Their traditional scoreboard had gone down just days before the game. The school was doing everything it could to get it back online: troubleshooting, tracking down parts and working through repairs. But with Homecoming getting closer and no guarantee the scoreboard would be ready, they knew they needed a backup plan.
That’s when Mobile Pro got the call.
“If we can’t get our scoreboard running, can you help?”
Our answer was simple. “Yes. We’ll figure it out.”
And just like a backup quarterback suddenly getting told to grab his helmet, MAX got the call.
MAX is Mobile Pro’s mobile LED video board. With less than two days to prepare, our team started building a solution that could step in if the traditional scoreboard couldn’t.
But MAX had a little more in the playbook than simply keeping score.
We could create a digital scoreboard, but we could also give Park Christian live video, Falcons graphics, sponsor recognition, touchdown celebrations and other content that could involve the fans throughout the night.
Then, just before game time, some great news came.
The starting quarterback was back.
Park Christian got its traditional scoreboard operational.
Normally, that might mean the backup goes back to the sideline.
But this time, there was no reason to put MAX back on the bench.
Instead of being the emergency scoreboard, MAX became the video board.
And that changed the night.
The traditional scoreboard handled the game information while MAX helped create the atmosphere around it — touchdown graphics, video, school branding, sponsor content and some last-minute ideas that came together between our crew and the Park Christian team.
That might actually be my favorite part of this story.
What started with “What are we going to do if the scoreboard doesn’t work?” became “Now that we have this, what else can we do with it?”
And there were plenty of those conversations throughout the evening.
Some requests came with very little notice. Some ideas weren’t part of the original plan. But our team kept finding ways to make them happen.
By kickoff, the lights were on, the fans were ready, the Falcons were taking the field and Homecoming felt like Homecoming.
The scoreboard worked.
The backup never technically had to take over.
But it still got into the game — and helped make the game better.
That’s a pretty good reminder of why we believe preparation isn’t just about having more equipment sitting around.
It’s about having people who are willing to answer the phone, understand the problem and say:
We’ll figure it out. Sometimes you need the starter. Sometimes you need the backup.
And sometimes the backup brings something to the game you didn’t even know you were missing.
Built by experts. Driven by people.
